an additional issue here is that no matter which synaptic is chosen in an
ubuntu session the -kde one is placed in the unity launcher by Software-Center

Both entries in USC install the same package synaptic, so I guess this
a bug of synaptic itself?

The problem is that we have both
/usr/share/app-install/desktop/synaptic:synaptic-kde.desktop
/usr/share/app-install/desktop/synaptic:synaptic.desktop
I guess synaptic:synaptic-kde.desktop can be removed since it is useless
for USC purpose. synaptic will carry two desktop files anyway.
