[Bug 1130489] Re: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination
karim shaban, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number ** Tags added: latest-bios-3603 needs-upstream-testing regression- potential ** Summary changed: - Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination + [MAXIMUS IV GENE-Z/GEN3] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null); RIP: 0010:[81414845] [81414845] intel_gtt_map_memory+0x75/0x160 ** Summary changed: - [MAXIMUS IV GENE-Z/GEN3] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null); RIP: 0010:[81414845] [81414845] intel_gtt_map_memory+0x75/0x160 + [ASUS MAXIMUS IV GENE-Z/GEN3] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null); RIP: 0010:[81414845] [81414845] intel_gtt_map_memory+0x75/0x160 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1130489 Title: [ASUS MAXIMUS IV GENE-Z/GEN3] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null); RIP: 0010:[81414845] [81414845] intel_gtt_map_memory+0x75/0x160 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1130489/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1130489] Re: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1130489/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.] ** Tags added: bot-comment -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1130489 Title: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1130489/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1130489] Re: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in linux. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs. ** Package changed: ubuntu = linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1130489 Title: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1130489/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1130489] Re: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.8 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as Confirmed. Thanks in advance. [Bug 1130489] Re: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected quantal running-unity ** Description changed: Using Ubuntu 12.10. Setup: I have one monitor connected to my ATI Radeon HD 6800 card (via DVI) and one monitor connected via HDMI to my ASUS motherboard (the CPU has an Intel HD4000 built-in graphics card). The BIOS is set to have the PCI-E card as the default display. What happens: When I boot, I see the display connected to the ATI card. If I then go into display settings, and try turning on the other monitor, the Kernel crashes spectacularly. The log is attached. My installation is fully updated, but I have not installed any extra AMD or Intel drivers. Regardless, I'm fairly certain the kernel should not be crashing like this. Let me know if you need any extra info. + --- + ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu10 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC2: kshaban2209 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC0: kshaban2209 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC1: kshaban2209 F pulseaudio + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=81463182-2057-4e79-ae66-21c56e4888b0 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-02-20 (0 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Release amd64 (20121017.5) + MachineType: System manufacturer System Product Name + MarkForUpload: True + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + TERM=xterm + PATH=(custom, no user) + XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=set + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcFB: + 0 radeondrmfb + 1 inteldrmfb + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.5.0-24-generic root=UUID=cdedb701-0777-476e-83b9-fbc4930dbf11 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-24.37-generic 3.5.7.4 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-3.5.0-24-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-3.5.0-24-generic N/A + linux-firmware1.95 + RfKill: + 0: phy0: Wireless LAN + Soft blocked: no + Hard blocked: no + Tags: quantal running-unity + Uname: Linux 3.5.0-24-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo + dmi.bios.date: 11/09/2012 + dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. + dmi.bios.version: 3603 + dmi.board.asset.tag: To be filled by O.E.M. + dmi.board.name: MAXIMUS IV GENE-Z/GEN3 + dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC. + dmi.board.version: Rev 1.xx + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Asset-1234567890 + dmi.chassis.type: 3 + dmi.chassis.vendor: Chassis Manufacture + dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr3603:bd11/09/2012:svnSystemmanufacturer:pnSystemProductName:pvrSystemVersion:rvnASUSTeKComputerINC.:rnMAXIMUSIVGENE-Z/GEN3:rvrRev1.xx:cvnChassisManufacture:ct3:cvrChassisVersion: + dmi.product.name: System Product Name + dmi.product.version: System Version + dmi.sys.vendor: System manufacturer ** Attachment added: AlsaInfo.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1130489/+attachment/3539293/+files/AlsaInfo.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1130489 Title: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1130489/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1130489] Re: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination
I did the following: Ran: sudo apt-get install python-setuptools sudo easy_install launchpadlib apport-collect bug number Gave my machine access in the browser. Clicked on send report. Then I reproduced the error and caused the kernel to crash again. This obviously cannot get sent through apport since the kernel crashes. I'm setting to confirmed. Let me know if I need to do anything else. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1130489 Title: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1130489/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1130489] Re: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination
Ok I updated the kernel to 3.8.0-030800-generic and it fixed the crashing issue. I can now turn on both monitors with this setup. Only problem is that I get wierd boxes/streaks when I move the mouse cursor or move windows. I took a picture with my cell phone since print screen won't capture it (ignore the warped lines ... that's just a side effect of trying to take a picture of an LCD screen. But notice the gray box near my mouse cursor). I'm closing this bug (since the kernel crash issue IS resolved), but I would still appreciate help. Do I need to install a new version of X or something after upgrading the kernel? I have never upgraded the kernel manually before (always done it through Ubuntu software center). ** Attachment added: IMAG0089.jpg https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1130489/+attachment/3539314/+files/IMAG0089.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1130489 Title: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1130489/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1130489] Re: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination
Have only tested it for about 15 minutes or so, but updating to xorg/edgers seems to have fixed everything. Maybe I'm being dumb, but I can't find a link to edit the bug tags ... so please, whoever sees this, mark it as fixed-upstream. thank you -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1130489 Title: Kernel Crash with AMD/Intel Graphics Combination To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1130489/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
