This is still resent with latest Intrepid and latest 2.6.27 kernel. Upon issuing a restart from within KDE, the system restarts and hangs on the itCO_wdt. The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Hi Guys, Care to confirm this is still an issue with the latest Alpha for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10. You should be able to test via a LiveCD - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing. Please let us know your results. If the issue still exists, can you confirm the reboot=b solution still works. If reboot=b is still valid, please attach the output of 'sudo dmidecode' . Confirming on another Optiplex 745 under Hardy, latest kernel 2.6.24.19. Re Ben's comment #9, I have motherboard code 0KW628 (assuming this is the board's Product Name from dmidecode). A colleague has an Optiplex 745 with code 0WK833 which doesn't have this problem, so doesn't look like it's restricted to Ben's two codes. Hope that's of use. This bug persists in Hardy (8.04), and can be fixed permanently by adding 'reboot=b' to the end of the line that begins '# kopt=' in /boot/grub/menu.lst. On further investigation, it seems that the bug has been fixed in the linux kernel source as of version 2.6.23: http://lxr.linux.no/linux/arch/i386/kernel/reboot.c . However, the patch only fixes the bug on machines with a motherboard name of '0WF810'. Some OptiPlex machines which fail to reboot have a motherboard name of '0RF703'. These are not affected by the patch, and are therefore still broken.
