There is a plugin problem of codeblocks-contrib in codeblocks.
Installing codeblocks-contrib can make error. Try removing codeblocks-
contrib including libwxsmithlib0 and valgrind.

My experience is different from simplehuman comment #4. Ubuntu Studio
(xfce4) 13.10 x64 exhibits exactly same symptoms.
Also in codeblocks log, in addition to pbuescher comment #3:
/usr/lib/codeblocks/plugins/libFileManager.so: not loaded (missing symbols?)
