Just a comment on this issue, that I reported some months ago for Ubuntu
13.10. After installing Ubuntu 14.04, this issue is not occurring again,
at least in my system.

Andréas Kühne, please do not advise others to add themselves to a bug
report. If they are having a graphics related issue, as these are
treated on a per hardware basis, they would need to file a new report,
not dog pile onto an existing one.

Exactly the same problem for me. I own an HP Elitebook Folio 9470m with
the Intel HD 4000. I'm running Ubuntu 13.10 and I have recently updated
the Intel drivers using their installer.

@Christopher: A few months ago I switched to a different machine (one
built for Linux) and so I can no longer comment on this problem, which
only occurred on the Macbook I was using before. A few other people
above say they're seeing the same problem, so perhaps they'll be able to
provide more

so, could you please test for this with the latest development release

Does the horizontal black lines garbage which flicks up in this video look like
the bug people have described, because it is near identical the the black lines
flicker I get (my lines look thinner, single pixel widths).

Chris, sorry for the slow response - things have been pretty busy here.
Here's a dmesg generated with drm.debug=6. I'll also attach the X log
file. Happy to perform any other debugging steps you like - just let me
know.

I don't think so. The screenshot in that bug shows just a couple of
horizontal lines crossing the screen, whereas in my case the entire
display is briefly overlaid with lots of intersecting black lines.
Also, that bug describes lines which stay on the screen for a long time

I've modified my X configuration to use UXA rather than SNA. Maybe that
will fix the problem - I'll post here soon with an update.

Hmm, that sounds like a display underrun. Can you please append
drm.debug=6 to you kernel command line and upload the resultant dmesg?
You will also want to track updates to the kernel.

OK, I can do that. I haven't seen the garbage since switching to UXA
(though it's only been a few minutes). Should I go back to SNA for the
debugging step you've suggested?
