The font loading problem is unrelated (probably some legacy font package
is needed). The bug (this one and the related bug #1184085 seems to be
fixed in Trusty Thar 14.04 (I tested with a live USB image),

I have the same bug in xfig3.2 patchlevel 5b which is used in Linux Mint
16 (Petra) which is base on Ubuntu

I can reproduce the error with the carport-1 file from the xfig-site.
I am getting the following error:

xfig works ok in another machine with ATI card, using radeon open source
driver. So it's probably a bug in the intel driver. In my ATI machine
