Title:
Underscore character is
I just encountered this appending of an underscore while trying to rename a usb
flash drive.
Using gparted my first attempt placed the underscore as /media/_flash and the
second as /media/flash_.
Ubuntu 12.04
Linux xx 3.2.0-30-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 24 16:52:48 UTC 2012
x86_64
Upon further investigation I found an explanation from the SuperUser
forum and it corrected the problem.
Look through your /media folder. My guess is that even when no drive is
plugged in, its mountpoint exists. remove this (empty) directory (with
the drive unplugged, just to be safe), with sudo
same behaviour in Ubuntu 10.10 on the netbook, for any reason the underscores
are adding up. Actually the data partition is mounted as /media/data
It is very annoying since I have to change settings in thunderbird and at NFS
all the time, adding additional underscores so files are found on

seems nautilus version 2.30 adds those underscores, worked around adding
an entry into /etc/fstab and mounting the data-partition ahead nautilus
could be opened.

I get a similar problem. I have a backup drive labelled BACKUP that gets
auto-mounted to /media/BACKUP. Sometimes the drive powers down for some
reason or loses connection with my box but then quickly remounts. It
remounts on /media/BACKUP_ though. I'd rather it just completely fail
though instead

I also am having this issue. It doesn't hurt functionality but still
very cluttered/annoying.

I can confirm that this problem occurred on my laptop using Ubuntu
7.04(Feisty).
Unfortunately, I can't replicate it under Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) since
hibernation isn't working at all.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Thanks in advance.
