I also received a message about insufficient space on /boot. Could this
be due to the fact that the I've enabled hard disk encryption?

Title:
In my case it was because I had a small (480 MB) /boot partition and
there were lot of (~10) 3.8 kernels. I have uninstalled older ones by
hand and now the installation is OK. I have encrypted home and I don't
think that could be reason for insufficient space on /boot.
