[Bug 122431] Re: Casper times out loading driver updates
** Description changed: Binary package hint: casper - Casper seems to time out after a few attempts to read the CD-ROM - while looking for a driver update source. I would like to request that - this does not automatically time out, rather waits for either a user + Casper seems to time out after a few attempts to read the CD-ROM + while looking for a driver update source. I would like to request that + this does not automatically time out, rather waits for either a user interrupt, or continues until a valid source is read. (cjwatson said:) I think maybe after saying Could not find driver updates; re-insert install CD and press ENTER it should go back to the start rather than exiting. Seems like a reasonable request. -- Casper times out loading driver updates https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 122431] Re: Casper times out loading driver updates
I experienced this again this morning with Kubuntu 20070627.liveCD but launchpad was down so I couldn't report it. On this occasion I saw some further messages about 'ipw3945 could not read microcode' I have since been unable to reproduce the bug so I can't get the full text of the error messages. This suggests that the problem is related to the ipw3945 wireless card in this machine. The liveCD gives no problems on a different machine which has no wireless card. This is a Lenovo N100 laptop. lspci returns 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Port 1 (rev 02) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Port 2 (rev 02) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #1 (rev 02) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #2 (rev 02) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #3 (rev 02) 00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB UHCI #4 (rev 02) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 02) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev e2) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Bridge (rev 02) 00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7 Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller IDE (rev 02) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) SMBus Controller (rev 02) 03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02) 05:01.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Richard, are you using the driver updates mode? (You'll know if you are.) Colin, that must mean I'm not using driver updates then. [Bug 122431] Re: Casper times out loading driver updates
I observed this with the Kubuntu 20070626.1 live CD. I didn't wait long enough for a timeout (sorry) but on a second attempt the liveCD started as normal.
