I installed GDM, and can confirm the reported problem. It's due to the changes
in version 0.6.35-0ubuntu3:

I tested with Rico Tzschichholz's suggestions at
http://paste.debian.net/plain/70639, but couldn't still not log in with
GDM. Attach my ~/.xsession-errors.

The attachment lp1260604.patch seems to be a debdiff. The ubuntu-
sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they can
review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. If the attachment isn't a

in with GDM.
