[Bug 1264964] Re: [Dell Optiplex 9020SFF] No audio input device available

2014-02-06 Thread David Henningsson
@Po-Hsu Lin: if outputs show up even when they are not connected, I'd
say it could be a bug, but not a serious one.

 - Line out jacks do not have jack detection in 12.04, because it is not
enabled in PulseAudio. This should be fixed/improved in 14.04.
 - Some hardware does not support jack detection at all, in which case showing
them all the time is the best thing we can do.

[Bug 1264964] Re: [Dell Optiplex 9020SFF] No audio input device available

2014-02-05 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hey David,

I'm curious about output devices, I saw some of them (desktop systems) still
have a output device available, even the speaker/headphones is not connected.
Should they behave like input devices in your comment #5?
Thanks!

[Bug 1264964] Re: [Dell Optiplex 9020SFF] No audio input device available

2014-01-28 Thread David Henningsson
For jack detection issues, there are a few levels of checking:

 1) Ask a direct verb using hda-verb or hda-jack-sense-test
 2) Check the mixer control (amixer contents)
 3) Check the availability status in pulseaudio (pactl list cards)

Depending on where the jack event gets lost the cause is different.

Hello,

since this is a Desktop system and external microphone works fine for both
front/rear sockets
I'll set this bug as invalid.

Thanks

Please note that if you don't have any input device actually connected,
there shouldn't be any device.
