Public bug reported: Just testing Ubuntu GNOME upgrades via "update-manager -d -c" and all seemed to go fairly well but when I'd expect to be asked to remove packages I got a black screen with a blinking cursor. I finally did a hard reset and all seems well but I see this at the end of the main.log:
