'rm ~/.local/share/zeitgeist -R' fixed this for me as well. Was experiencing exact same issue after upgrade. Could not rearrange, unlock, or lock in the launcher. Same here. cannot delete icon with Unlock from Launcher option. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 64Bit. I recently deactivated zeitgeist as it was explained in this post http://askubuntu.com/questions/339212/zeitgeist-fts-always-using-a-lot-of-memory Another user suspects residual/old settings in /home causing this incident. I've done a clean install, yet just mounted my old /home partition used in 12.04. I had similar problem (unable to unlock icon from launcher and rearrange them). I found a workaround in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1250314/comments/2 . After removing ~/.local/share/zeitgeist with all subdirs I had to restart computer. ...and one last comment. When I log in to a Guest Session, everything works fine. I think the problem may be some residual settings from my /home directory, which has been left intact over several distributions. Hi I just installed 14.04 yesterday (clean install, previously was using 12.10). I am experiencing the same issue. When I right-click on an item in the launcher, I get the options (usually just the application name and Unlock from Launcher but for example, with Spreadsheet, I also get New Spreadsheet). I can click on any of the other options and they will work. But if I click on Unlock from Launcher nothing happens. P.S. I'm not sure if this is related but I'll share it anyway. If I try to drag icons on the launcher, I can drag them but I cannot place them. Releasing the mouse button does nothing, unless the icon has abandoned its old position. Once the line (showing where the icon is or will be placed) has moved from its spot, releasing the mouse button no longer works. The icon is stuck. Clicking does nothing.
