I AM USING LINUX MINT 9; I TRY TO LOAD A VCD IN ITS MOVIE PLAYER; I GET THIS
ERROR: VCD PROTOCOL SOURCE PLUGIN IS NOT INSTALL.
PLEASE HELP ME.

To make clear what has happen, this is the procedure to reproduce the
problem:
(1) I insert a VCD to my Ubuntu notebook
(2) totem starts automatically.
(3) totem pop-up an error message to me says,
An error occured -The playback of this movie requires a VCD protocol source
plugin which is not
I have the same problem in my Gutsy Gibbon (7.10).
I've installed all the plugin packages I know include:
* gstreamer0.10-plugins-good
* gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
* gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
* gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse
After all installation and reboot, the same problem still
That's not a totem bug, gstreamer doesn't ship a vcd plugin, that will
likely be fixed in the hardy cycle

thanks for the info maybe I should switch to the xine version.
But until/if the code is forth coming then maybe the totem-gstreamer
description should be corrected
A simple media player for the Gnome desktop based on gstreamer
Its features :

The same here. I use Gutsy, with all updates from 07.09.07. What

I have the same problem!
Put a VCD in the drive, Totem launches then gives the error message VCD
protocol source plugin not installed.
I'm also on Gutsy with all updates installed as of today. Totem is
2.19.90 and about shows GStreamer 0.10.14

I just tried launching from a terminal to see what additional output
there might be:
totem /media/cdrom0
** Message: Error: A VCD protocol source plugin is required to play this
stream, but not installed.
gstplaybasebin.c(1604): gen_source_element (): /play:
No URI handler for vcd
** Message:
