I'm having the same problem with thunderbird, but not with firefox.
What compiz update fixes this?

Thunderbird 24.4 freezes
I just saw the settings panel freeze exactly the same way. I was trying
to set volume level using the dedicated keys, but it was not working. So
I opened the sound parameter app and tried to test the sound. And the
sound manager freezed.
I have the same problem with Firefox, and Totem seemed to
