This was upstream issue https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-
dl/issues/3754, which was also reported in LP: #1402981 and has been
(long since) fixed in Ubuntu.

youtube changes its interface a lot, and Ubuntu does not update the
youtube-dl package accordingly.
You would be better off downloading your own youtube-dl:
http://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/download.html
Using the upstram version also makes it easier to update:
sudo youtube-dl -U
