This bug is pretty painful if important directories like /var are on
LVM. Totally breaks the boot process.
Going into a maintenance shell and doing
dmsetup mknodes
then exiting the shell is a manual work around

Confirmed. The /dev/lvgroup/lvname symlinks have also disappeared
on my Gutsy system.
