Hi Christopher,
sorry but doing bisection I found this is not a bug, but rather some
misconfiguration with the default ubuntu desktop system settings whose I fixed
with some random modification of the flags in the Mouse and Touchpad system
settings applet.

the 3.16rc1 kernel fixed the issue! Now the touchpad scroller works fine, it
just is inverse: going UP with my finger causes the screen to scroll DOWN, like
the behaviour you get on touchscreens, so maybe it's intentional indeed...
So thank you a lot!
