I am facing the same problem also. Thanks to helpful message from TJ (wrote on 2007-09-03), the microphone is works now. Using Gutsy Tribe-5 64-bit I appeared to be suffering this problem, but found an explanation and solution. 1. Open Volume Control 2. Edit Preferences: select all tracks (including Digital so you can keep an eye on things) 3. On the Switches tab, select Microphone 4. On the Capture tab, ensure the Capture track is enabled and the sliders are up Keep Volume Control open and visible 5. Start Sound Recorder 6. Choose 'Record from input' Capture Note that the Microphone symbol in Volume ControlCapture tab gets disabled 7. Re-enable the microphone in Volume Control Capture 8. Start recording Note that the 'Recording from input' source changes to Digital and the microphone symbol in Volume ControlCapture tab gets disabled again. 9. Whilst still recording, re-enable the microphone in Volume Control Capture 10. Stop recording 11. I have the same problem on my HP Compaq nx7400. Confirming: 2.6.22-10 is broken. Seems like the model parameter to snd_hda_intel do not take effect anymore. On my Toshiba Satellite P205 with 2.6.22-9, model=lenovo the sound (mic, speakers muting etc.) worked 100% OK. Strange. It doesn't work on 2.6.22-9 on my machine (HP Pavilion dv9000 notebook with hda-intel). Similiar problems on Lenovo 3000 N100. The card behaves as if the external amplifier switch is permanently on (normally this causes the laptop to disable external speakers but causes distortion), but the switch itself disappears from mixer along with several other options. Generally a second iteration of regression (last time I checked, several months ago, the Feisty drivers worked ok, with headphones auto-detection and without distortion.
