[Bug 134285] Re: (046d:0850) QuickCam Web doesn't work in Feisty and Gutsy

2008-05-08 Thread bronto
Hello

I have a quickcam, as well, and it doesn't work with Skype, but maybe I
found a new clue. It's like Skype it's reading the image in YUV format,
despite the torgb setting of the driver.

Let me explain this one better.

This is the ID of the cam:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# lsusb | grep -i quick
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 046d:0850 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Web

and this are the current settings:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# qcset -i
Name : Logitech QuickCam USB
Type : capture subcapture
Channels : 1
Audio devices : 0
Maxsize : 356,292
Minsize : 32,32

Overlay coords: 0,0
Capture size : 356,292
Chromakey : 0

Channel : 0
Name : Camera

Flags :
Type : camera
Norm : 47097

Brightness: 32768
Hue : 32768
Color : 32768
Contrast : 32768
Whiteness : 32768
Depth : 24
Palette : RGB888 packed into 24bit words.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# for OPTION in debug qcdebug keepsettings settle subsample

frameskip: 0
quality: best

equalize: n

Now, using gqcam, setting RGB in the preferences and pushing Apply,
the image is ok (files: Screenshot-gqcam - Logitech QuickCam USB.png
and Screenshot-gqcam.png). If I select YUV instead, and press Apply,
the resulting image is pretty similar to what you get in other programs,
e.g.: skype.

Note also that the wecam started misbehaving right after I switched from
Debian testing to Ubuntu 7.04, nearly one year ago. The same webcam with
the same driver and the same version of Skype worked flawlessly in
Debian. The same thing happened to Wengophone, that worked ok with that
webcam until I switched to Ubuntu.

I hope this information is useful to catch the problem.

Ciao

[Bug 134285] Re: (046d:0850) QuickCam Web doesn't work in Feisty and Gutsy

2008-04-12 Thread Scott Hosking
Leann,

I updated my Hardy system using the update manager and I'm now using
Ubuntu 2.6.24-16.30-generic.

I then restarted and once gnome was loaded I plugged in the camera. I
tried the camera on Ekiga but at first it didn't work as it was setup to
use v4l2... I then switch to v4l and it detected the camera driver and
it worked, for about 30 seconds!! Now I can't get Ekiga to load again
(haven't restarted yet).

I also installed cheese but it didn't pick up the camera (maybe
because v4l2 is default??).

I have attached a dmesg.log which I hope you can find the problem. I
really appreciate your spending time to fix this bug.

Thanks
Scott

[Bug 134285] Re: (046d:0850) QuickCam Web doesn't work in Feisty and Gutsy

2008-04-12 Thread Scott Hosking
An update to my last post...

I restarted the PC and now the camera works fine in Ekiga. I have to
use v4l (and not v4l2 which ubuntu seems to think is the default the
first time I try using it). Cheese still does not detect the camera.
In skype 2.0 I tested the camera and it produced a ghosting image with
blue/green lines across the picture.

I have not tried the microphone that is attached to the camera

2008-04-10 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Scott,

After attempting to use the camera, care to capture and attach your
dmesg output. Just curious if any interesting error messages are being
logged. Also, can you comment which version of the Hardy kernel you are
running, 'cat /proc/version_signature'. Thanks.

An update from my last post.
I uninstalled Camorama Web Cam Viewer and then reinstalled it. Now the
Logictech cam works fine. I can also see it when running Kopete.
So, I'm back to where I was last night. Now lets see if it continues to work.

[Bug 134285] Re: (046d:0850) QuickCam Web doesn't work in Feisty and Gutsy

2008-02-07 Thread PhotoGopher
I just completed a new install of Gutsy, 2.6.22-14 yesterday and all was
working fine, including my Logitech web cam. I shut down the system and then
booted it back up today and nothing but problems. Desktop locks, programs
don't run or run slow and my web cam is always on (green LED) and is not
recognized.
Reboot and remounting the cam does nothing.
Now I'm lost and I'm not really sure where the problem resides as nothing seems
to be stable.

2008-01-03 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hardy Heron Alpha2 was recently released. It contains an updated
version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron
Alpha2 release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-2/ .
You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you
can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your
results. General information regarding the release can also be found
here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/hardy/alpha2 . Thanks!

2007-11-16 Thread Leann Ogasawara
I'm retargeting this bug towards the upcoming Hardy kernel and have
tagged it as hardy-kernel-candidate. However against the linux-
source-2.6.22 package this is being marked as Won't Fix as it does not
meet the criteria for a stable release update. To learn more about the
stable release update process please refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates . Thanks!

I do use 32bit Gutsy, I don't personally recommend 64bit operating
systems as they havn't matured enough in my opinion.
