Wget 1.12 released late last month. Will probably appear in Lucid Lynx.
Meantime, it's already in Debian unstable, so you may be able to use the
package from there.

The fix is commited upstream on
http://hg.addictivecode.org/wget/mainline/log?rev=0e985f1d9214
and it will be jaunty as soon wget 1.12 is out and we can perhaps
backport it to Intrepid.
