I think he got that, but something else must be going on, as for us plasma
5 is working fine with lightdm. Although I recall an issue at first
instance (not sure now what was it). I would just recommend to try it
again...

Faced similar issue with plasmaworkspace taking too much ram and cpu
sometimes. Also udisksd, Xorg and KWin used to take too much ram and
cpu. Got rid of plasma 5 and now it feels much better

Indeed. I thought that lightdm couldn't be used with plasma 5, for whatever

It can be, it's just another display manager like SDDM, just that (and
this is just my belief) upstream recommends SDDM for not-technical
reasons.

This issue is becoming a real pain, the fix provided here
https://github.com/sddm/sddm/pull/304/files work but it's still a crude
fix and needs to be refined, the integrated in the project code to be
released.
