same problem also with ubuntu-7.10-beta-desktop-amd64 on an acer aspire 5102. I'm not sure if I have the same problem. I tried to boot using the gusty beta live cd and it gets past the login screen and hangs. I say some wireless card errors (broadcom) as it was booting, but then I got the login screen. After pressing enter, it worked for a little while then I saw an error message for a second then it hung with the wallpaper on the screen. I have a gateway laptop with an ATI Xpress 1150.
