Public bug reported:

I do not have compiz installed (hardware not capable of fancy stuff like that), 
but was still testing the new "Appearance Settings". Selecting normal or extra 
effects on the desktop effects tab results in the following:
 * Dialog "Failed to execute child process "compiz" (No such file or directory)"
 * After clicking ok, metacity gets started ("metacity --replace").

The dialog is ok, but starting metacity was unexpected: First, my
original WM was still running fine (as compiz had not been started).
Second, I run openbox so I would have assumed that any WM restarts would
start openbox, not metacity.
