[Bug 144305] Re: sleep on powerbook crashes

2010-04-06 Thread VirtualWolf
I'm still seeing this on my original 800MHz iBook G4, running 9.10. The
Live CD I ran and installed from was Xubuntu, I don't know how much of a
difference that makes. Close the lid, the sleep light comes on after a
while, but upon opening the lid again the machine turns off totally.

Sadly, I don't have one of those machines at hand, so it's very hard for
me to test or try to figure out what's wrong :-(

Cheers,
Ben.

[Bug 144305] Re: sleep on powerbook crashes

2009-12-22 Thread Vikram
It looks like the patch noted in patch for hal-system-power-suspend-
linux: switch to text-mode VT before invoking PMU sleep to resolve this
issue has already been included and released in Ubuntu Karmic. As a
result I'm marking this bug Fix Released. Thanks.

[Bug 144305] Re: sleep on powerbook crashes

2009-11-27 Thread Albertas Agejevas
Colin, I downgraded the kernel to the one from Jaunty and now suspend
works perfectly. On the older kernel the driver is definitely the open
source one. I did not install any closed source drivers beside the
Broadcom Wifi firmware extractor.

@Albertas, which ATI driver are you using? The open source one or the

[Bug 144305] Re: sleep on powerbook crashes

2009-10-09 Thread Colin King
@Philip Hale, @clewis,

Can you confirm this issue exists with the most recent Karmic Koala 9.10
Alpha release. ISO CD images are available at
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/ . If the issue remains with
Karmic it would be great to then also test the latest upstream mainline
kernel available. This will allow additional upstream developers to
examine this issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds. Thanks!

[Bug 144305] Re: sleep on powerbook crashes

2009-09-04 Thread clewis
This is still a problem for me in Jaunty.

Additional things I've noted are that gnome does not display a suspend
option, and 'lshal' reports that 'power_management.can_suspend' is false
(which, I think, explains gnome not offering a suspend option). What
seems interesting about this is that other threads have reported that
these machines do not support hibernating, an option that gnome does
offer, but that they do support sleep/suspend to ram. Manually setting
'power_management.can_suspend' to true and then using gnome's suspend
functionality just flashes the screen and then presents a logon
screen. If I switch to a virtual terminal and run either '/usr/lib/hal
/hal-system-power-pmu sleep' or 'pbbcmd sleep' the same thing happens:
the screen blanks, but the machine does not go to sleep.

confirm this issue exists with the most recent Jaunty Jackalope 9.04

us know your results. Thanks.

2009-04-21 Thread Andreas Moog
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Jaunty Jackalope. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release
at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your
help.
