[Bug 144305] Re: sleep on powerbook crashes
I'm still seeing this on my original 800MHz iBook G4, running 9.10. The Live CD I ran and installed from was Xubuntu, I don't know how much of a difference that makes. Close the lid, the sleep light comes on after a while, but upon opening the lid again the machine turns off totally. -- sleep on powerbook crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/144305 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 144305] Re: sleep on powerbook crashes
It looks like the patch noted in patch for hal-system-power-suspend- linux: switch to text-mode VT before invoking PMU sleep to resolve this issue has already been included and released in Ubuntu Karmic. As a result I'm marking this bug Fix Released. Thanks. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Fix Released -- sleep on powerbook crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/144305 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 144305] Re: sleep on powerbook crashes
Colin, I downgraded the kernel to the one from Jaunty and now suspend works perfectly. On the older kernel the driver is definitely the open source one. I did not install any closed source drivers beside the Broadcom Wifi firmware extractor. -- sleep on powerbook crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/144305 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Albertas, which ATI driver are you using? Suspend hangs on a clean install of Karmic release on a Powerbook G4 (with ATI Radeon Mobility 9600). I get a pattern of white vertical lines every 8(?) pixels on black, machine stops responding to pings. -- sleep on powerbook crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/144305 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 144305] Re: sleep on powerbook crashes
@Philip Hale, @clewis, Can you confirm this issue exists with the most recent Karmic Koala 9.10 Alpha release. ISO CD images are available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/ . If the issue remains with Karmic it would be great to then also test the latest upstream mainline kernel available. This will allow additional upstream developers to examine this issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds. [Bug 144305] Re: sleep on powerbook crashes
This is still a problem for me in Jaunty. Additional things I've noted are that gnome does not display a suspend option, and 'lshal' reports that 'power_management.can_suspend' is false (which, I think, explains gnome not offering a suspend option). What seems interesting about this is that other threads have reported that these machines do not support hibernating, an option that gnome does offer, but that they do support sleep/suspend to ram. Manually setting 'power_management.can_suspend' to true and then using gnome's suspend functionality just flashes the screen and then presents a logon screen. If I switch to a virtual terminal and run either '/usr/lib/hal /hal-system-power-pmu sleep' or 'pbbcmd sleep' the same thing happens: the screen blanks, but the machine does not go to sleep. /proc/version: Linux version 2.6.28-6-powerpc (bui...@adare) (gcc version 4.3.3 (Ubuntu 4.3.3-5ubuntu4) ) #20-Ubuntu Fri Apr 17 08:30:40 UTC 2009 /proc/cpuinfo: processor : 0 cpu : 7447A, altivec supported clock : 1333.333000MHz revision: 1.1 (pvr 8003 0101) bogomips: 73.47 timebase: 18432000 platform: PowerMac model : PowerBook6,4 machine : PowerBook6,4 motherboard : PowerBook6,4 MacRISC3 Power Macintosh detected as : 287 (PowerBook G4 12) pmac flags : 001a L2 cache: 512K unified pmac-generation : NewWorld Memory : 512 MB -- sleep on powerbook crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/144305 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Anyone else like to comment if this problem now is fixed with Jaunty 9.04? Unfortunately it seems this bug is still probably an issue. Can you confirm this issue exists with the most recent Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 release - http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-9.04-desktop . Please let us know your results. [Bug 144305] Re: sleep on powerbook crashes
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Jaunty Jackalope. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help. ** Summary changed: - [gutsy] sleep on powerbook crashes + sleep on powerbook crashes ** Package changed: ubuntu = linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- sleep on powerbook crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/144305 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
