I was getting this, and solved when df told me that /boot was full.
I tried to apt-get purge my old kernels but that didnt' work, apt said
not enough disk space... um, yeah, that's why i wanted to remove stuff.
apparently apt-get tries to do some sorta boot config before removing,
probably

package linux-image-3.16.0-37-generic (not installed) failed to
I ran those commands and am having the same issue that Manish is having
with the exact same package. The issue is still there:
Preparing to unpack .../linux-image-3.16.0-37-generic_3.16.0-37.51_amd64.deb ...
Done.
Unpacking linux-image-3.16.0-37-generic (3.16.0-37.51) over (3.16.0-37.49) ...
It appears the .deb file is corrupt.
You may need to run the following from a terminal:
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
Then re-install the package.
If that does not resolve your issue, please mark the bug as Confirmed
