Public bug reported: I was running Firefox and Kontact, possibly Dolphin, nothing else. Plasma suddenly crashed leaving the apps on a black screen. Switching to another terminal, killing TTY7 deleting ~/.cache and rebooting seems to have fixed it for now.
Some history: I was running Kubuntu 14.10 and did a distro upgrade. That went straight to black and as I needed to work I installed LXDE as a stop gap. This week I did a fresh install of 15.04, AMD64 and found it wouldn't drive my NIC. So I re-installed using the 32bit version which has worked OK for 2 days. Now the random crash.
