[Bug 1455874] Re: Xorg freeze

2015-06-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Rudolf Göldner, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is manually attached. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt
with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please feel free to subscribe me to this new report.

Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1455874] Re: Xorg freeze

2015-05-31 Thread Rudolf Göldner
Christopher M. Penalver, I have done a reinstall.
kubuntu 15.04 worked fine.

I did the software updates and switched to the nvidia driver. Restart
ok.

I made some adaptions to the favorite menue. Then I used System Settings to
fit Screen Locking
and changed Virtual Desktops to three.
After restart: XFREEZE.

2015-05-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Rudolf Göldner, if there is a crash resulting in a freeze, there should
be a crash file in /var/crash . Would this be the case?

[Bug 1455874] Re: Xorg freeze

2015-05-27 Thread Rudolf Göldner
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 ubuntu utopic

** Description changed:

Installation of 15.04 in addition to 14.10 ok.
Start by BIOS start menue ok.
  All worked fine.

Then I wanted to add some lines to the fstab to mount ntfs partitions. I
copied these lines from the kubuntu 14.10 fstab.
Since then, kde shows the animated splash screen when loading and then a
black screen with no more action possible.
Only Control+Alt+F1 works and shows the tty screen.

I deleted the additional lines in the fstab, but there is no change in
  behaviour.

[Bug 1455874] Re: Xorg freeze

2015-05-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Rudolf Göldner, as per https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/69044
/Intel-Desktop-Board-DH87RL an update to your computer's buggy and
outdated BIOS is available (0327). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1455874] Re: Xorg freeze

2015-05-26 Thread Rudolf Göldner
Christopher M. Penalver,
I tried it with Utopic resulting in:

rudi@kubuntu1410:~$ sudo apport-collect -p xorg 1455874
ERROR: Could not import module, is a package upgrade in progress? Error: No
module named PyQt4.QtCore

The first error might be caused by the repeated annoying message of a new
kubuntu version which appears in Utopic.
The second error: How can I install PyQt4.QtCore?
