Ubuntu Gutsy, without any extra codecs installed

1. Try to open an MP3 file.
2. In the "Search for suitable codec?" alert, click "Cancel".
Or:
1. Try to open an MP3 file.
2. In the "Search for suitable codec?" alert, click "Search".
3. In the "Install multimedia codecs" window, click "Cancel".

What happens: "An error occurred - The playback of this movie requires a
MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) decoder plugin which is not installed."

What should happen: No such error should appear. I already know the file
is not going to play, because I'm the one who clicked the Cancel button.
