Backlight issue -
I am also a Samsung Chronos 7 user on a fresh dual boot of Linux Mint
with Windows 10.
For me, a brightness bar appeared an moved according to me pressing Fn+F2/F3,
but the actual brightness would stay the same. If I pressed Fn+F2 until the
brightness bar was 0 the screen would turn off.

I just created an account to thank you, Erwin.
I've spent weeks going mad looking for a solution (no idea how I didn't

I also have the NP770Z5E. What helped me was to change the grub kernel
boot parameter to
acpi_osi=linux acpi_backlight=video

The issue occurred on a fresh install of Ubuntu 15.04 but as I was
previously running 14.04, you could describe it as an upgrade (though it
was not through the upgrade mechanism). There was certainly a previous
kernel version where this was not causing a problem, but I am unable to
tell you which i
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.2 kernel[0
Update: upon further reboots with acpi_backlight=vendor, trying to
adjust the brightness using the laptop hotkeys causes the brightness to
immediately descend to minimum levels and the brightness change
notification panel becomes locked.
