Public bug reported: The arduino version shipped with Ubuntu Wily should be a current build, such as 1.6.3. In fact, it is version 1.0.5, which is 2.5 years old, and incompatible with most current boards.
This is made more confusing by a version number that doesn't make it obvious. Going to Help-menu -> About Arduino, should show the numbering that corresponds to the source upstream. However, what I actually see is the dpkg version, "2:1.0.5 + dfsg2-4". This doesn't help the user easily understand "Are you running a recent build, at least version 1.5?"
