Possible solution:
I noticed the Masquerading options block in sendmail.mc is placed
_after_ Default mailer setup. I moved the default mailer setup block
to the end of the file. This cleared all sendmailconfigs error messages.

Yes, I still see the errors.
I think the problem is in the order of instructions in the file
debian/cf/debian/sendmail.mc.in.
