Public bug reported: I am running Gutsy Beta with all the updates until Oct. 5th on an AMD64 machine.
Here's the problem: I am connecting to the internet over WLAN, using a VPN connection and a proxy is needed for the network. The proxy of the normal network blocks most ports, including POP, SMTP etc., but SSH is open. Setting this proxy in system => settings => network proxy, apt recoginzes it and I can install updates and new packages. Trying to use a SSH proxy with 'ssh -D 1080 [EMAIL PROTECTED]' and setting this as a socks proxy in Gnome (system => settings => network proxy: localhost and 1080), it doesn't work. I cannot download updates and Evolution (which uses these settings?) doesn't connect either. If I set exactly the same thing in Firefox, I can browse the web without a problem and Thunderbird works, too. ** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Gutsy]Socks proxy settings are ignored by Evolution and Apt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149728 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
