[Bug 1519427] Re: Screen goes blank every 5 minutes, requires TTY switch to get it back.
Kyle Fazzari, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product- support/product/precision-m3800-workstation/drivers/advanced an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A10). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible: 1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an apport-collect): sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement or not. 3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-a10 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1519427 Title: Screen goes blank every 5 minutes, requires TTY switch to get it back. Kyle Fazzari, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 1519427 ** Package changed: linux-lts-utopic (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1519427 Title: Screen goes blank every 5 minutes, requires TTY switch to get it back. [Bug 1519427] Re: Screen goes blank every 5 minutes, requires TTY switch to get it back.
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: On a Dell M3800, running Trusty, my screen goes blank (e.g. as if it were going idle, but still backlit) very often (around every 5-10 minutes). The only way I can get it back is to either close the laptop lid to suspend and wake it back up, or to switch TTYs. The relevant syslog snippets always look something like this: Nov 24 11:52:04 Pandora dnsmasq[1813]: reading /etc/resolv.conf Nov 24 11:52:04 Pandora dnsmasq[1813]: using nameserver 127.0.1.1#53 Nov 24 11:52:04 Pandora dnsmasq[1473]: reading /etc/resolv.conf Nov 24 11:52:04 Pandora dnsmasq[1473]: using nameserver 127.0.1.1#53 Nov 24 11:53:31 Pandora dnsmasq-dhcp[1473]: DHCPREQUEST(lxcbr0) 10.0.3.129 00:16:3e:8e:7a:88 Nov 24 11:53:31 Pandora dnsmasq-dhcp[1473]: DHCPACK(lxcbr0) 10.0.3.129 00:16:3e:8e:7a:88 snapcraft Nov 24 11:54:09 Pandora dnsmasq-dhcp[1473]: DHCPREQUEST(lxcbr0) 10.0.3.44 00:16:3e:d0:df:55 Nov 24 11:54:09 Pandora dnsmasq-dhcp[1473]: DHCPACK(lxcbr0) 10.0.3.44 00:16:3e:d0:df:55 ros Nov 24 11:54:50 Pandora kernel: [105852.851699] Modules linked in: veth nfnetlink_queue nfnetlink_log nfnetlink xt_conntrack ipt_REJECT pci_stub vboxpci(OE) vboxnetadp(OE) vboxnetflt(OE) ip6table_filter ip6_tables ebtable_nat ebtables bbswitch(OE) vboxdrv(OE) xt_CHECKSUM iptable_mangle ipt_MASQUERADE iptable_nat nf_conntrack_ipv4 nf_defrag_ipv4 nf_nat_ipv4 nf_nat nf_conntrack xt_tcpudp bridge stp llc iptable_filter ip_tables x_tables dm_crypt pn544_mei mei_phy pn544 hci nfc uvcvideo dell_laptop dcdbas videobuf2_vmalloc videobuf2_memops snd_hda_codec_realtek videobuf2_core v4l2_common intel_rapl x86_pkg_temp_thermal videodev snd_hda_codec_generic snd_hda_codec_hdmi intel_powerclamp coretemp kvm_intel dm_multipath kvm scsi_dh crct10dif_pclmul crc32_pclmul snd_hda_intel ghash_clmulni_intel snd_hda_controller snd_hda_codec media wl(POE)<4>[105852.851845] Hardware name: Dell Inc.
