[Bug 153133] Re: update-manager seems to lose flash 9
Today I accepted the Ubuntu Firefox updates. Firefox became unstable, for instance google.com doesn't resolve and gives this message: ASSERT: *** Search: _installLocation: engine has no file! Stack Trace: 0:ENSURE_WARN(false,_installLocation: engine has no file!,2147500037) 1:() 2:() 3:() 4:epsGetAttr([object Object],alias) 5:() 6:SRCH_SVC_getEngineByAlias(https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/+filebug) 7:getEngineByAlias(https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/+filebug) 8:getShortcutOrURI(https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/+filebug,[object Object]) 9:canonizeUrl([object KeyboardEvent],[object Object]) 10:handleURLBarCommand([object KeyboardEvent]) 11:anonymous(textentered,[object KeyboardEvent]) 12:fireEvent(textentered,[object KeyboardEvent]) 13:onTextEntered() 14:handleEnter(false) 15:onKeyPress([object KeyboardEvent]) 16:onxblkeypress([object KeyboardEvent]) I've looked at /usr/me/.mozilla/pluginreg.dat and only one line mentions flash: cat pluginreg.dat | grep flash /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so:$ Some sites resolve, like mail.yahoo.com. Being a novice I lack the background to determine whether this is the same problem mentioned above since adobe isn't mentioned or involved and I've not manually loaded anything other than through Synaptic. I'm with Reuben Firmin, Ubuntu should not break stuph when update notices are accepted. Any workaround in my case? --Albert ** Attachment added: "pluginreg.dat" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29946271/pluginreg.dat -- update-manager seems to lose flash 9 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153133 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 153133] Re: update-manager seems to lose flash 9
Sorry, but not really. If I install openoffice 2.0, and then upgrade to 2.2, am I required to delete openoffice 2.0 manually? No. The bug here, if there is one, is that Firefox's installation for Flash 9 apparently didn't remove Flash 7. For some reason, these coexisted in the version of Firefox that was in Feisty, but apparently do not in the one that's in Gutsy. Given this change in behaviour in your app, you should detect the condition and inform the user. Defaulting to an older version also seems to be incorrect behaviour; surely, if there are multiple versions, you should default to the newer. -- update-manager seems to lose flash 9 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153133 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 153133] Re: update-manager seems to lose flash 9
its the obligation of the user to manage whatever they installed in the profile. Ubuntu cannot anything about it. Flashplayer 9 was updated by adobe because it had bad bugs ... as usual. Remove things from your profile plugins/ folder and you will be fine. In firefox 3 you will get the ability to manage your profile plugins through the firefox addons manager. -- update-manager seems to lose flash 9 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153133 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 153133] Re: update-manager seems to lose flash 9
Also note that both flash 7 and flash 9 lay claim to libflashplayer.so (in my first comment). I will wipe and cleanup manually, but this is something the app should manage. -- update-manager seems to lose flash 9 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153133 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 153133] Re: update-manager seems to lose flash 9
Yeah, but it's not my job to clean up after the app. Also, flash 9 worked on Feisty no problem, so what happened that broke things, during the upgrade? from pluginreg.dat: /home/reuben/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so ... so you still have a old flashplayer install in your profile. removing the flashplayer files from /home/reuben/.mozilla/plugins will fix this for you. - Alexander ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- update-manager seems to lose flash 9 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153133 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
