Public bug reported:

Since I am a long time dual head user and I always had problems configuring
dual screen on linux I tested an install of Gutsy before upgrading... thanks
god I made a test!!
Dual head setup on Gutsy is totally screwed up and I'm completely unable to
make it work any more. Here the hardware I have:
05:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G70 [GeForce 7600 GS]
(rev a1)
with two Samsung 223BW Flat Panels (resolution 1680x1050)

These are (some of) the problems I encountered:

- upon fresh install I got the analogic monitor with very disturbing
garbage badly flashing on the screen

- from the control panel the type and resolution of the monitor is not detected
and even by manually configuring it I'm unable to select the correct resolution.
In either case dual screen was not working.

I then installed the proprietary drivers:

- while the open source driver used only the digital monitor, the closed
source one used only the analogic output

- once again I was not able to manually setup the type and resolution of
the other monitor

- if instead I select one of the available resolutions for the secondary
screen (I had to use 1024x768 instead of 1680x1050) I'm not able to
login any more: after entering credentials in the display manager, after
a couple of seconds I get back to the login screen (login in fail safe
mode worked tough).

Once again dual head was not working so I turned back to my Feisty
install.
