Under gentoo I had a similar error with totem, Then I realized that totem (although I thought I compiled against gtk+2) It is revelaed that totem incorrectly using the old gtk+1 version. After completely removing deprecated glib and gtk+ packages, I had rebuilt the totem and all the problems against the gtk has seemed to be resolved.
