I test You ppa version. Its better then version from Intrepit. Autopano-
sift is predefined correctly.
I have some problem with first stitch:

In 8.10 this seems to work. New project may be saved after
optimalization.
But is there problem with autopano-sift. In package autopano-sift is no
executable autopano-sift, and autopano crashed.
Next setting is working:
[AutoPanoSift]
AutopanoExeCustom=1
AutopanoExe=autopano-complete
Args=-p %p
For last question, it will be taken into account when final 0.7.0
version will be release and sync from Debian (http://bugs.debian.org
/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=502721 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hugin/+bug/285674)
Also, can you try the package in my ppa? This will allow me to
intrepid rox !!!

Not for me.
I do my project, i save it. it's when i launch a new one or when i try to add
new pics after erasing the old ones.
before alpha 7 hugin worked great. it's since the had a wizard.

Same error in Ubuntu 7.10 and 8.04. Error is raised on save after
optimization. Project is saved OK only after loading images.

i try to launch it with sudo hugin, when it crashes it sends me this :
