I upgraded to xenial and clustering = yes seems to work fine now as does
ctdb. But I did get another error when running:
# ctdb scriptstatus all
Output was an error at the bottom referencing the "interface" script:
function gensub never defined
Installing the "gawk" package seemed to fix it.
I ran 'apt-get source samba' on both trusty and xenial. debian/rules
has different cluster options.
Current xenial source (4.3.11+dfsg) has a bunch of references to ctdb
and conf_args uses both config parameters:
--builtin-libraries=replace,ccan,samba-cluster-support
--with-cluster-support
I made some tests today and confirmed the issue still exists with the
latest published Samba package on Trusty: 2:4.3.11+dfsg-
0ubuntu0.14.04.13.
But the issue does not exists on Xenial. CTDB is working fine here.

I'll grab this and determine if it's a regression.

Hi Andreas,
this is on our expiry check for server-next bugs today.
You worked on so many smb issues that I lost the overview - are there any
updates on this one as well to either work on it again or to drop server-next
for a reason?

I did a diff between the source of the two versions and noticed this
suspicious change in debian/rules:
4.1.6:
--builtin-libraries=replace,ccan
4.3.9:

Something definitely happened between versions. I'm working on a SAN
cluster (glusterfs+ctdb+samba) and have two identical nodes, I
downgraded one.

root@san1:~# dpkg -l | grep samba

I performed the same CTDB tests with both versions of Samba:
2:4.1.6+dfsg-1ubuntu2 and 2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.14.04.3.
CTDB was working with 2:4.1.6+dfsg-1ubuntu2 but not with
2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.14.04.3.
No third-party samba package.
