open a random app, long press the home button to reveal the launcher,
let it go. now short tap/press on the home button to go to the home
scope. doesn't work.

That was bug 1602966. However bug 1602966 only ever existed in the Mir
0.24 series and has been fixed already before the release of Mir 0.24.0.

Weird. I did a Super key fix in Mir recently however AFAIK that
regression both occurred and was fixed between releases and never made
it onto any devices.
