mongoc, rather than needing to build from source. The current system

Yes, libmongoc in Ubuntu is a bit out of date. We just uploaded 1.4.1 to
Debian unstable and will upload 1.4.2 soon with a single bugfix. I'm the
upstream maintainer and I'd encourage upgrading libmongoc (and its
dependency,
