`kill` removes values and properties. `reset` assigns the initial value
of a symbol to the symbol. In both cases, these functions aren't
specifically designed to free up memory, so I think that one can't
expect them to. So the observed behavior is, I think, not a bug.

There is a new function `garbage_collect` which will be in the next
version (5.43 at this point) to run the Lisp implementation's garbage
collector -- that should free up memory if possible.
