Public bug reported:

(I"m actually on linux mint)

In the live USB and default install, suspend worked correctly
(hibernation didn't). At some point, it stopped working (and hibernation
started working), it just get blocked on a black screen, the laptop is
totally blocked, i have to press the power button.

sudo pm-suspend still works correctly.
systemctl suspend gives the above behavior.

I"m actually on linux mint 18 MATE 32bits, everything upgraded and with
original kernel.
I think it stopped working after the systemd update, still with original
kernel. I tried installing other kernels from the official repos and from
kernel.ubuntu.com, but nothing changed (4.4.1 and 4.8).

I think a regression hapened in systemd somewhere between 229-4ubuntu4(xenial)
and 229-4ubuntu10(xenial)
I couldn't test between 4 and 10.

I can send you logs, if you tell me exactly how and what.
