I am having the same problem with Canon MP190. Ok, I got my HP M477 to work with simple-scan by downloading/installing the hp-plugin. (sudo hp-plugin) ADF doesn't work, but this could be an issue of hplip 3.16.3. If you have an HP printer, you could check if "sudo hp-plugin" solves the problem for you. This bug also affects my Canon PIXMA MX870. Update: I installed the snmp package; all of the output errors in the terminal have been suppressed, but I still get the error "Failed to Scan. Tested with a Canon USB scanner. That also fails.
