Problem persists in 17.04, kernel 4.10.0-19. I have the same issue on a Metabox P650-RP (re-badged Clevo), Ubuntu 16.10, kernel 4.8.0-46. Adding i8042.reset to my kernel command line fixed it for me also. It is not after any update/upgrade. It is a new hardware. I tested the 4.9 RC7, nothing has changes. Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
