Thanks for providing the additional information. I've also forwarded this to the Debian maintainer, see the attached bug watch. If jacksum 1.7.0-2 on Ubuntu 14.04 it is likely the issue was introduced since then, which should help pin-point exactly what is causing it. But the jacksum -h option is unable to work since it is not able to locate the file "help_en.txt" I seem to remember it used to work on 12.04 and 15.04/10. I get the same error message when attempting to run `jacksum -h` from jacksum 1.7.0-4.1 on Ubuntu Artful, so I'm marking this as confirmed. It's great to add older releases where the package worked, so that it is easier to track down when the bug was introduced :) But I don't see which release you are currently running?
