2017-10-19 Thread Paul Garff
Re-installed HPLIP 3.15.2.run on my desktop pc and configured my

[Bug 1723112] Re: Stpped printer. Ubuntu 16.04 upgrade 2

2017-10-14 Thread Paul Garff
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS is configured with HPLIP 3.15.2 by default.
Ubuntu 17.04, which is not LTS, is configured with HPLIP 3.17.9 but no
convenient way to upgrade to it and will not be supported after January 2018.
Since Ubuntu 16.04 is going to be supported for the next 5 years, it needs to
have the most current version of HPLIP configured with it.

[Bug 1723112] Re: Stpped printer. Ubuntu 16.04 upgrade 2

2017-10-13 Thread Paul Garff
I've found the solution to the problem but I can't implement it. I
don't even know if the right persons will even read this. I guess I
just have wait and see if the latest HPLIP will be attached to ubuntu
16.04.

[Bug 1723112] Re: Stpped printer. Ubuntu 16.04 upgrade 2

2017-10-13 Thread Paul Garff
This is what I got when I went to the following web site.
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install_wizard/index.html

You have selected Ubuntu 16.04 using the HP Officejet Pro 8710 All-in-
one Printer.

Ubuntu 16.04 supplies HPLIP 3.15.2 by default, which does not support
your printer.

You must ensure latest HPLIP version (recommemded), or at least HPLIP
3.16.5 in order to use your printer with Ubuntu 16.04.

I tried to get the latest HPLIP 3.17 but it failed. fixing this
problem is beyond my skills i.e. testing an upstearm kernal.

If I could I would revert back to ubuntu 15.04.

2017-10-13 Thread Paul Garff
I have a laptop the runs Ubuntu 15.04. I installed my hp 8710 office jet with
no problem. The printer works just fine. I will try and do what you suggest
to confirm the status or bug 1723112.
It's been awhile since I have used terminal commands.

[Bug 1723112] Re: Stpped printer. Ubuntu 16.04 upgrade 2

2017-10-13 Thread Paul Garff
Richard Jarvis sent this to me. How do I get the latest upgrade from
the Ubuntu printer repository?

to me
Hi Paul,
This was a while back. But I did have the backend cups problem, same as you.
As I recall I had to install the latest upgrade, from the Ubuntu printer
repository, of their printer codes. With me the printer just stopped working,
after my being on 16.04 for a while. The help that I received eventually solved
the problem, details of this are on the thread given with my question, which I
fear I don't recall in any detail. (I don't use bluetooth).
Hope this helps.
Richard

[Bug 1723112] Re: Stpped printer. Ubuntu 16.04 upgrade 2

2017-10-12 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.14 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.
