You could simply turn off the wireless radio on your laptop.

I cannot confirm that, because on my laptop it chashes as soon as it starts
scanning, but there's always some AP near!

I agree. It looks like the current version of swscanner crashes as soon
as it found an access point. (It is working as long as it does not find
anything).
