I booted this image and no longer experience the issue. I'm not sure if the default for this image is Wayland or Xorg... the command "echo $DESKTOP_SESSION" gave "ubuntu". The other thing is that I installed the packages linux-headers-4.15.0-10 and linux-image-4.15.0-10-generic on my 17.10
