It seems that the issue is connected with Sane backend (pixma). I checked on Sane supported drivers, and your device is well supported (pixma backend): http://www.sane-project.org/sane-backends.html#S-PIXMA "i-SENSYS MF240 Series Flatbed and ADF scan. All resolutions supported (up to 600DPI, ADF up to 300DPI). 216mm image width buggy, restricted to 215mm."
